A German girl, who is believed to have disappeared from home last summer to join ISIS, was found by Iraqi troops last Thursday.

Linda Wenzel, 16, "went missing from the German town of Pulsnitz last year," according to BBC News.

Iraqi troops reportedly found the girl with an ISIS female suicide squad made up of 20 foreigners, the Daily Mail noted.

The group of females had weapons and explosive belts in their possession.

Prior to Wenzel's disappearance, she reportedly converted to Islam and had communication with members of ISIS -- the group that many of her neighbors believe she left home to join.

Wenzel is said to have run away after her parents separated and her mother married a local school caregiver.

The girl, described as "quiet," "sensitive" and a "brilliant student," reportedly used her mother's passport to fly from Frankfurt to Turkey before eventually going to Syria, the Daily Mail said.

Some who know her family aren't happy about what she put her parents through.

"What sort of a person gives themselves over to a group killing her own people in Germany? I hope a jail cell awaits her when she returns, not yellow ribbons," one neighbor said, according to the Daily Mail.

The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns and is expected to be turned over to Germany's diplomatic mission, the BBC said.

This all comes after a near nine-month battle between Iraq's government and the Islamic State in Mosul, BBC News noted.

The Iraq government has declared victory in the conflict, which led to the deaths of thousands of civilians and left more than 920,000 other people displaced.
