Jennifer Hudson is giving her weight loss advice in response to controversy about “The Biggest Loser” winner Rachel Frederickson’s dramatic change.

"The key about losing weight: You have to do it for you," Hudson told People magazine. "It's not about even starting the journey, it's about you. You have to want to do it. And you can't let what everyone has to say overshadow what you want for you."

Hudson spoke to People before taping a tribute to Aretha Franklin for the 2014 BET Honors, set to air Feb. 24.

An ambassador for Weight Watchers, Hudson maintains her weight through a Weight Watchers plan.

Hudson, a 2004 American Idol contestant, was criticized after losing 80 pounds in 2010.

In January, Hudson announced a grant to provide reduced fees for some low-income Baltimore residents to join Weight Watchers, according to The Baltimore Sun.

"One of my New Year's resolutions this year was I want help change lives," she told the Sun. "I'm starting that by being here. Hopefully, my testimony can help inspire someone else's journey and make a difference in someone else's life."

Frederickson, who won “The Biggest Loser” by losing 155 pounds, has received criticism that she lost too much weight.

But the reality TV star says she feels great and is following a healthy diet designed by the show’s dietician and an exercise program that includes three of four exercise classes a day.

Hudson’s fans backed her up on Twitter:
