Lady Gaga is saying her Super Bowl halftime concert will be dedicated to "everyone," but some are wondering just how far she will go in making a political statement during the giant televised event.
Last year, chart-topping singer Beyoncé Knowles riled conservatives with a performance some complained was anti-police, with dancers dressed in outfits resembling the 1970s Black Panther party, noted Fox News.
Lady Gaga's performance has become nearly as anticipated as the New England Patriots meeting the Atlanta Falcons in the big game at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Lady Gaga, who hasn't been shy about sharing her political views, hinted at a news conference on Thursday that she doesn't plan to change her style, reported USA Today.
"The only statements I'll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I've been consistently making throughout my career," she said. "I believe in a passion for inclusion, the spirit of equality and the spirit of this country, one of love and compassion and kindness."
Lady Gaga supported Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and performed at a campaign rally for the former first lady at North Carolina State University last November before the election, noted USA Today.
The Guardian said that shortly after President Donald Trump's victory over Clinton, Lady Gaga was photographed outside of Trump Tower in New York with the sign, "Love trumps hate," a popular sign during Clinton's campaign. She posted the photo on her Instagram page.
If Lady Gaga plans to speak directly about Trump, she did'not reveal it on Thursday, but Jem Aswad, senior editor at Billboard magazine, told USA Today that the entertainer may not go that far.
"I would be shocked but not surprised if she just stopped a song and went on an anti-Trump rant, but I don't think it's going to happen, because that's very much a bridge-burning move," Aswad said. "But at least as many people, if not more, would support a move like that than be angry with her for it."
