Larry David and Bernie Sanders, who became connected to through the "Seinfeld" co-creator's impersonation of the politician last year during the presidential election, are distantly related.
The surprising revelation was revealed to David during an upcoming episode of the PBS program "Finding Your Roots," CNN reported. "Finding Your Roots" features celebrities and newsmakers as they discover their genealogical history.
David, who returns to his hit HBO show "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on Oct. 1, told the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday that he's been told to keep the connection secret until "Find Your Roots" episode airs, but he has seen an advance screening.
David was a hit impersonating the U.S. senator from Vermont on "Saturday Night Live" and has been nominated for an Emmy for his work, noted Variety.
One of David's first appearances as Sanders on "Saturday Night Live" in October 2015 has been viewed more than 12.7 million times on YouTube.
The comedian said that the whole idea of him playing Sanders came during the first Democratic Party presidential debate last year.
"(WME-IMG co-chief executive) Ari Emanuel called me up and said, 'What did you think?'" David said during the TCA tour, Variety noted. "And every time I watched Bernie Sanders, I would repeat everything that he said, because I know that I can talk like that. So I started talking to Ari, the agent, I started talking to him like Bernie.
David said the original idea was to do something on the Internet, Variety said.
"I said, 'No, I'm not going to do that. That's not me. I don't care,'" David said, per Variety. "Then I said, 'You know, it would be a good thing for 'Saturday Night Live,' not thinking in a million years."
Even though David would not reveal the relation, he added: "I was very happy about that. I thought there must have been some connection."
