Leah Remini's TLC Reality Show to Address Scientology Departure

Leah Remini's TLC Reality Show to Address Scientology Departure

By    |   Wednesday, 25 June 2014 09:11 AM EDT

Leah Remini will address her controversial departure from the Church of Scientology head on in the July 10 premiere of her new TLC reality show, "Leah Remini: It's All Relative."

Remini publicly split from the reported cult-like religion in 2013 after questioning the church's leadership about its use of interrogation and thought modification on members.

In the show's premiere, Remini and her movie producer husband, Angelo Pagan, decide to throw a party at their Los Angeles home for friends who stuck by them since they left the church, according to a statement from Discovery, which owns TLC.

"I'm so happy to be opening my home to TLC and to be sharing my family with you," the "King of Queens" actress said in the statement. "We are blessed to be given this opportunity to work together as a family. However, beware — in these last 13 weeks of working on the show, my mother and stepfather already feel they are the true talent and breakouts of the show and expect to be offered sitcoms."

Remini told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show last year that she lost friends after her departure from Scientology.

"My mother got involved when we were very young, so it's all we really ever knew," Remini said. "But over time, my eyes opened and I could no longer be affiliated with the organization."

In a May interview with the talk show host, Remini said that her family is still recovering from the split but working all together on the reality show has helped.

"We're learning new ways to reconnect with each other," she told DeGeneres. "It really has brought us closer together. We're stronger and we're having so much fun together. This is something that the family loves to do. At first, I was like I don't need 25 people at my house every day. My stepfather and my mother they love it."
