What O.J. Simpson is worth now that he could be going free as early as Oct. 1 depends on several factors, but the one-time football great turned ex-convict will have a six-figure pension waiting for him.

Simpson was granted parole Thursday after serving nine years of a potentially 33-year sentence on 12 criminal counts including armed robbery in an incident involving some of his sports memorabilia at a Las Vegas hotel in 2007, reported National Public Radio.

ESPN senior writer Darren Rovell said there is a sizable pension waiting for Simpson, 70, that will be out of reach of the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, who won a $40 million civil judgement against him.

Simpson, who was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985, was acquitted for the murder of Brown and Goldman in the sensational 1995 trial that had recently reached renewed pop culture status with an Emmy Award-winning miniseries and an Academy Award-winning documentary. Simpson though, was ordered to pay $33.5 million ($40 with interest) in a civil judgment to the families in 1997, noted ESPN.

Simpson, who played in the NFL from 1969 to 1979, is eligible for pension payments worth $4,034 a month, Rovell noted.

"Getting paid that for 105 months in jail would mean O.J. made $423,570," Rovell wrote. "But if he waited until 65 — he just turned 70 — he would collect 2.619 times that, according to the (NFL player pension) formula. That would make his pension $10,565 a month. Based on 57 months in jail after his 65th birthday, that's $602,205."

CBS Sports reported, though, that such things as memorabilia sales and appearances will be subject to the Brown and Goldman settlement.

"According to one of his close friends, O.J. also reportedly has a fully funded personal pension that is worth anywhere from $2-$5 million depending on how the assets were invested and performed," the website Celebrity Net Worth said, pointing out it is a far cry from the $10 million he was worth when he divorced Brown Simpson in 1992.

"He also reportedly has a Screen Actor's Guild pension that pays around $1,700 per month," the website added.

USA Today said that because of past legal bills, Simpson sold a $15 million apartment in New York, a second home in Mexico, and several other properties. Simpson also sold a home in Florida sold for about $500,000 in Florida.
