Oprah Winfrey will add "60 Minutes" special contributor to her long list of media titles when she begins making contributions to the news magazine in the fall.
The announcement of Winfrey's role on "60 Minutes" was first revealed on "CBS This Morning,"where her longtime best friend Gayle King is a cohost.
"There is only one Oprah Winfrey," executive producer Jeff Fager said in a CBS News statement. "She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life.
"She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for '60 Minutes.' I am thrilled that she will be bringing her unique and powerful voice to our broadcast," Fager continued.
Winfrey, who hosted her award-winning "Oprah Winfrey Show" for 25 years and, went on to start her own cable television network in 2011. She is also an Academy Award-nominated actress and successful entrepreneur who sits on the Weight Watchers board of directors.
Forbes estimates Winfrey's real-time net worth at $2.9 billion as of Tuesday.
"I've been a big admirer of '60 Minutes' since my days as a young reporter," Winfrey said in the CBS News statement. "I'm so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling. At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds."
Many on social media, though, were not impressed by the news as reaction to Winfrey joining "60 Minutes" was negative in many corners.
