South Korean commandos would immediately "decapitate" Kim Jong-un and his military leadership if a nuclear strike is ever actually impending against the South, according to a new wartime plan.

The South Korean defense chief confirmed on Wednesday that the country plans to create a military unit in 2017 for the sole purpose of eliminating the North Korean dictator and his military commanders if a nuclear attack is launched, reported the International Business Times.

When asked Wednesday whether there was a unit already assembled, Defense Minister Han Min-koo said, “Yes, we do have such a plan,” CNN reported.

“South Korea has a general idea and plan to use precision missile capabilities to target the enemy’s facilities in major areas as well as eliminating the enemy’s leadership,” he added.

“We are planning to set up a special brigade with the goal of removing or (at least) paralyzing North Korea’s wartime command structure (in the face of escalating threats from the communist state),” Han Min-koo told acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn during the New Year policy briefing, per IBT.

This plan has been speculated on for some time now.

“A president would want to have the option,” said Daniel Pinkston of Troy University, per CNN. “…Not presenting that to the president, not training for it and having that capability would be a mistake.”

This comes just several months after the South Korean military had touted “the value of so-called decapitation strikes” against North Korea’s leadership, according to the Japan Times.

It was said, at the time, that an “impending” nuclear attack by North Korea would be the deciding factor in South Korea launching these “beheading” strikes, which were focused on Jong-un and his leadership.
