Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, a London socialite and "It Girl," was found dead at her home on Wednesday, a year after she had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Authorities, though, were treating the 45-year-old's death as "unexplained."

According to the Evening Standard, Scotland Yard said officers responded to a call from paramedics at 1:40 p.m. local time at her West London home.

Born to British Olympic skier Charles Palmer-Tomkinson, a close friend of Prince Charles, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson was a regular on the London party scene in the 1990s, frequently appearing in society and celebrity magazines, said the Evening Standard.

The Telegraph said Tara Palmer-Tomkinson was often photographed with members of the Royal family, enjoying skiing holidays together, and attending at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

She once had her own newspaper column and was a television personality in Britain.

Palmer-Tomkinson, though, also battled drug problems, along with health issues that included an auto-immune disease that caused tiredness, joint pain, and acute anemia, said the Evening Standard.

The Telegraph said she entered rehab in 1999 for cocaine addiction and suffered the collapse of her septum. Palmer-Tomkinson later admitted she had once overdosed before entering recovery.

She told the Daily Mail last November that she had been treated since January for a brain tumor, and she proclaimed she had move away from her partying days.

"I'm not the person I was," said Palmer-Tomkinson. "I'm much calmer. I don't go to places like Ibiza because the party world scares me. I've gone completely the other way. I'm a very quiet person now, and I like being that person. I have a better perspective on life."

The Sun said Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall released a statement after Palmer-Tomkinson's death, saying they were "deeply saddened and our thoughts are so much with the family."

Celebrities and followers shared their condolences on social media.
