Troy Gentry, a country music singer and part of the duo Montgomery Gentry, died on Friday in a helicopter crash in Medford, New Jersey, on the way to a concert. He was 50.

Another passenger also was killed in the crash, which took place around 1 p.m., Hollywood Life reported. Bandmate Eddie Montgomery was not on board, and the identity of the other passenger has not yet been revealed.

The concert was canceled after the crash. The duo, together since the 1990s, was best known for their song “My Town,” although they had a number of other hits as well.

Gentry is survived by his wife Angie McClure and daughters Taylor and Kaylee.

Montgomery Gentry was working on their ninth album, which was set to release this year. It is not known how much of the album was completed before Gentry’s death.

The cause of the crash is unknown and is under investigation.

Gentry is the second country star to die Friday; Don Williams also died at age 78 after a short illness.

Twitter followers were heartbroken about Gentry’s loss.
