A young Yankee fan was hit by a foul line drive during Wednesday’s game at Yankee Stadium.

The 105 mph line drive off the bat of Yankee player Todd Frazier hit the face of the young girl who was sitting directly behind third base, The New York Times reported. The little girl, whose name has not been released, was sitting in the lower-seats and was carried out by her grandfather.

Fans gathered in the stadium to watch the Yankee-Minnesota Twins game fell into a shocked silence, while Frazier was seen kneeling down in clear distress, the Times noted. Stadium staff members immediately rushed to the girl's aid while concerned fans and players looked on.

The girl was taken to the nearby NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, according to ESPN.

On Wednesday night, the girl's father, who declined to be named, told reporters that it was too early to tell whether she would need surgery.

"She's doing all right. Just keep her in your thoughts," he told WABC-NY.

The station said the girl is 2 years old.

The game was delayed for approximately five minutes while stadium staff and paramedics attended to the child.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Frazier said: "I thought of my kids. I have two kids under 3 years old and I just hope she's all right."

"It was terrible," he continued. "I was shaken up a little bit. I hope she is all right. It is something that I wish never happened. It was tough. Tough to watch. Tough to be a part of, to be honest."

Frazier and fellow players later Tweeted about the unfortunate event.

The incident highlights recent heated discussions surrounding the protective netting at the stadium. Earlier this year, another young fan was hit by a broken bat, sparking calls to add more netting to protect fans, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Outraged fans turned to Twitter to express their concern over the lack of safety netting.
