BILLINGS, Mont. -- The body of a mother of four who vanished last month was found in the Yellowstone River, weeks after her ex-husband was accused of violating an order of protection she had obtained a decade ago.
Susan Casey's body was found in the river Tuesday near Fallon, about 30 miles from Glendive, where she lived, Dawson County Sheriff Craig Anderson said.
"We have switched from a missing person investigation to a suspicious death investigation," Anderson said. He would not comment further and the cause of death was not disclosed.
Casey, 34, worked at the Glendive Medical Center. She was reported missing April 12.
Two days later, her ex-husband, Walter Larson, was arrested and charged with violating a 1998 order of protection. At the time, Anderson declined to comment on a possible connection between the charge and Casey's disappearance.
Larson pleaded not guilty to the charge and was freed on bail pending a hearing next month.
Court records said investigators looking into Casey's disappearance found her former husband had made 44 calls to her phone in the days before she disappeared.
Dozens of volunteers had joined in the search for Casey, covering nearly 1,700 square miles of Dawson County on horseback, on all-terrain vehicles and on foot. Aircraft and boats were also used.
