Gold Star parents Khizr and Gazala Khan lashed out Tuesday at President Donald Trump for his "lack of empathy" and "selfish and divisive actions" in the wake of the deaths of four U.S. soldiers in Niger.
The Khans blasted Trump on Tuesday in a statement to ABC News, declaring they "stand with the families in their moment of grief."
"We are deeply saddened at the news of the death of our four brave hero sons serving our nation on an important mission in Africa," the statement to ABC News read. "We stand with the families in this moment of grief."
"We are also saddened to see unbecoming of the president behavior of Trump, his lack of empathy, selfish and divisive actions have undermined the dignity of the high office of the presidency, one more time as he has shown the nation him undeserving of the leadership of our great nation,” they said, the New York Daily News reported.
Trump drew fire during the 2016 campaign for disparaging the Khan family after Khazr Khan delivered a blistering denunciation of Trump at the Democratic National Convention.
The couple's son, Humayun Khan, a Muslim soldier, was killed in Iraq in 2004.
