Gonorrhea, caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that affects both men and women. If left untreated, gonorrhoea can cause serious complications, including pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women and infertility in both men and women. Gonorrhea can be passed on to the newborn during birth, causing eye infections or blindness. Gonorrhea can be transmitted through oral, vaginal, and anal sex.
Physicians generally prescribe antibiotics for the treatment of gonorrhoea. However, there are some natural health treatments that can aid in the treatment of gonorrhea. Herbal treatment may include immune stimulants and other alternatives to help the mucous membranes, urinary tract heat-clearing herbs, urinary tract antiseptics, and demulcent anti-inflammatory herbs.
Several herbs may reduce symptoms and hasten healing. These herbs include kelp (macrocystis pyrifera and related species), calendula officinalis, myrrh (commiphora molmol), and thuja occidentalis. They can be administered orally.
Naturopathy can supplement in the treatment of gonorrhea. It involves the use of herbal remedies such as echinacea (a non-toxic herb widely used for its immune-stimulating, antibacterial, and antiviral activity), golden seal (a herbal remedy for colds, flu, dyspepsia, gastritis, and sinus and bladder infections), prickly ash (a herbal remedy that stimulates the circulatory system and acts as a diaphoretic), sarsaparilla (a herbal remedy for skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis, and for the treatment of rheumatism and liver problems) and sida cordifolia (a weed whose leaves are used to treat gonorrhea).
One of the best ways to naturally deal with gonorrhea is to try and reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet. Avoid deep-fried food, baked food, high-fat dairy products, and fatty meat sources. A diet with lower saturated fat keeps things under control and may help cure gonorrhoea naturally.
Vitamin supplements, even if consumed as part of the diet, can help. However, diet alone cannot treat or prevent gonorrhoea. Supplements like vitamin C, zinc, vitamin B complex, and vitamin K need to be taken along with prescribed antibiotics to cure gonorrhea.
