Russia Collusion Takes a Left Turn

Russia Collusion Takes a Left Turn

President Trump tweeted Thursday night about one of his favorite topics: "Fake Media." But does he have a point? This time he was talking about the Obama-era uranium deal with Russia.

The sensational story is not new, but The Hill brought new light to its credence Tuesday. Documents discovered by the FBI in 2009 are incredulous. They unravel evidence of a sweeping, illegal Russian scheme to boost Vladimir Putin's atomic energy business.

That “boosting” included bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering by a country considered unfriendly to the U.S. It’s who was on the receiving end.

The FBI has an eyewitness account of Russian nuclear officials steering millions of dollars to benefit the Clinton Foundation. In fact, Russia's state-owned nuclear company Rosatom was attempting to acquire mining rights to 20 percent American uranium through its purchase of Canadian-based Uranium One.

To do so, that required approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. None other than Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder were on that committee.

In 2010, that very same committee unanimously approved the sale of Uranium One to the Russian nuclear company. The Obama administration handed over control of one-fifth of the nation's uranium supplies to Russia.

Obviously officials at Rosatom were flagrantly violating U.S. laws and possibly compromising national security and the FBI knew it. The Clinton Foundation had a clear conflict of interest.

None of this information had been disclosed before the Obama administration approved the sale.

More ironic is the fact that some FBI investigators at the time of the Uranium One deal now direct the special counsel probe into allegations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to swing the November election.

The million dollar question is did Clinton, Holder, or anyone else know about this investigation? Clinton was gone from State before any action was taken. What role, if any, did those donations to Hillary's charity and Bill’s outrageous speaking fees have to do with the compromise of national security?

On Thursday as this story was broken, it did not fit into the narrative of websites that included ABC News, NBC News, CBS News or CNN or USA Today. The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post ran a rudimentary blurb as did AP.

The Washington Post blamed conservatives for jumping to conclusions. This is a newspaper that prints “news” stories about President Trump filled with innuendo and non-existent neighborhood fence gossip daily.

The utter lack of mainstream journalistic interest is appalling and disturbing at the same time. They have the resources to engage this complex scandal that affects every American in this country.

Did the Obama administration ignore evidence of criminal activity in order to hand Russia an American strategic asset? Will national outrage force the media to do their job? The left has stopped at nothing pursuing one dead end after another on Trump and his administration’s so-called collusion with the Russians.

Perhaps it’s time to pull a few reporters off of what Trump terms “Fake News” and cover what could be a bombshell story. But it is not what they may discover as much as how it will hurt them.
