California ranked 46th on the Guns & Ammo list of  "Best States for Gun Owners 2014," primarily because of strict gun regulations. Despite that, many firearms and pistol ranges see a strong business in the Golden State.

Here are eight ranges that offer gun owners a safe place to practice and fire their weapons:

1. Insight Shooting Range: This shooting range in Artesia, California has an impressive 4.5 stars on Yelp out of more than 250 reviews. "I've never had so much fun at a shooting range before," one woman wrote. "First of all, this place is large. It doesn't feel as claustrophobic and loud as some other places, and you don't feel like someone next to you is going to do something dumb like pose with a gun towards a camera." The range has 20 shooting stations and offers firearms training.
