North Carolina ranks 19th in a
2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo. "North Carolina does not restrict MSRs, but permission from the sheriff is required to obtain a machine gun." The state received a score of 43 out of 50 based on right to carry laws, restrictions on sporting rifles, National Firearms Act rights, Castle Doctrine and a miscellaneous category.

Eagle 1 Law Enforcement Supply: Located in Raleigh, this facility offers seven indoor shooting lanes up to 25 yards with a "fresh air environment." In addition, members have several opportunities per week to use the outdoor AR, rifle and shotgun range. According to Eagle 1, "This is the place your momma warned you about."

Point Blank Range: Located in Mooresville, this indoor shooting range and pro shop has a 25-yard range with 15 lanes and a state-of-the-art wireless, programmable turning target system operated from a local keypad or Range Safety Officer. The range has full climate control via HEPA filters.

Frontline Defense: Located in Warrenton, this firearms training center has outdoor pistol, rifle and shotgun ranges up to 300 yards and construction on a 1,000-yard range is underway. Firearm training is available from basic handgun and concealed carry to low light and competitive shooting. Competitions include the Ambush Action Series, which include, "3 gun matches, 2 gun matches, long gun competitions, rimfire competitions, and pistol matches."
"Great outdoor range and excellent instructions ... I highly recommend this facility and the classes offered to anyone regardless of background or experience," writes a reviewer on Facebook.

Carolina Sporting Arms: Located in Charlotte, this firearm dealer, training and indoor shooting range facility states, "Forget the days of dirty, smoky shooting ranges. Our air filtration system is the most advanced available, circulating the air inside our range every ninety seconds." The facility offers 14 shooting lanes up to 25 yards and has over 100 rental guns available.
