Texas has been known for being big in many areas, including gun range activities. Ranked number 14 in a 2014 list of the
best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo, "Texas has the reputation of being one of the most gun-friendly states in the union and that stereotype is pretty much on the mark."
Here are six spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of Texas:

Winchester Gallery Gun Store: The indoor range located in Fort Worth, has 20 pistol lanes and two rifle lanes with automated target retrieval systems. Customers have flat rate fees with no hourly fees. More than 100 firearm rentals are available along with an on-site gunsmith for repairs or cleaning.

"I really love this place," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "They have a great staff that is more than happy to carry on a conversation and answer questions. They have very reasonable prices on their merchandise and the range fees are good. The people I've met at the range have all been super nice and know how to be safe with their firearms."

Lone Star Gun Range: The range is open to the public with day and year passes for an additional fee. Located in Lockhart, children under 18 are free and must be accompanied by adults. Prices include use of two short pistol and rifle ranges, a rifle range up to 100 yards, a defensive shotgun range and four trap and skeet platforms.
"My sons and I never shot a gun in our lives but wanted to try something different," writes a reviewer on TripAdvisor. "The staff here was great. They took the time to explain how to load, hold and fire the gun."

Quail Creek Range: Located in Argyle, this facility includes two rifle ranges and three pistol ranges. A multipurpose range is available for instruction and competition. Range officers offer assistance.
"Great Range. They are very safety conscious but very helpful," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "The place has really been fixed up the last couple of years and the shooting benches are really nice. Price is reasonable and (they) have lots of lanes."

High Noon Indoor Pistol Range: The family-operated business located in Crosby, has two indoor ranges for pistols and rifles. A ballistic chart is available for rifle shooters to sight guns. A professional instructor is also on site.

"I've been shooting at this range for quite a long time and I can say confidently, this is the best range I've been to," writes a reviewer on Superpages. "Knowledgeable staff and a hometown feel sums it up nicely."

Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club: Located in El Paso these 10 ranges include areas for pistol, rifle and trap shooting. There is also a 3D archery range. Non-members sign in at the club pro shop.
"The pro shop sells everything: targets, ammo, gimme caps, ear plugs, eye protection. It's very inexpensive to use the pistol ranges," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "There is a bar and grill in the club house."

A Place to Shoot: Located in San Antonio, rifle ranges have distances of 25, 50, 100 and 200 yards. Pistol ranges are up to 18 yards. Skeet, trap and archery ranges are also there. A shop includes firearms and accessories.
"Very good, comprehensive, safe, friendly place to shoot — pretty much anything," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "We shot clay, but I looked at the pistol, rifle, and archery areas. All were outdoors and decent."
