The people who know guns believe that Springfield Armory is doing something right in designing its weapons. A check of almost any assessment reveals positive Springfield Armory reviews.
One of the first places to check about the quality is
Guns & Ammo magazine, which had nothing but praise in its review of Springfield Armory's XD-S 4.0. The website said the engineers were on the ball when developing the gun, noting its four-inch barrel "hit the sweet spot between portability and shootability." The reviewers noted the non-intrusive way they gun fit in with casual dress and the easy way the pistol could be pulled from concealment.
The website also praised Springfield Armory in its review for the fiber optic front sight and the texture of the gun. Guns & Ammo reported that in 350 rounds into its test of the model, that it did not have a single malfunction.
In
Michael Stephenson's review on TheTruthAboutGuns.comof Springfield Armory's XD-S 3.3-inch 9mm model "set a very high standard" with its previous incarnations and that the latest model lived up to the billing, but without a heavy recoil.
Stephenson also liked the texture and the feel of the gun and felt that carrying the weapon was simple. Most critically, Stephenson said the gun fired flawlessly more than 500 rounds, using a variety of ammunition. Only one type of ammo gave Stephenson problems, but once he fired the first round with the new ammo, everything went smoothly again.
That review also gave the XD-S 3.3 9mm five stars – out of five – for accuracy and five stars also for reliability, while that model did not get any marks lower than four stars.
Also,
PoliceMag.com reviewed Springfield Armory's XD-S model, harkening it positively to a throwback of the times when the police had what they called pocket rockets. The testing was "flawlessly reliable and accurate." The magazines were called "high quality" and "easy to load and unload." The review said it was easy for concealment and said it handled well. The only quibbles were with the magazine release and the sighting, which the reviewer felt, were not quite up to the level of previous Springfield Armory weapons.
No matter the gun, Springfield Armory's reviews are almost universally positive.
Outdoor Life gave high marks for the XD(M) 5.25 9mm model, hailing it as "ideal for action pistol shooters."
