Hawthorn Lowers Blood Pressure and Helps Heart Health

According to WebMD, the leaves, berries and flowers of hawthorn
are used to produce medicines used to treat diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

Hawthorn is widely regarded in Europe as a safe and effective treatment for the early stages of heart disease, according to herbwisdom.com. It has also been indicated for strengthening blood vessels, dealing with vascular insufficiency and blood clots, restoring the heart muscle wall and lowering cholesterol.

Some acceptance of using hawthorn to treat heart-related conditions has also been gained in the United States. Hawthorn may have a role as an adjunctive therapy in mild heart failure but its place in therapy is less clear in more severe cases of congestive heart failure, according to Drugs.com.

Hawthorn's ability to lower cholesterol is due to its ability to increase the liver's absorption of LDL cholesterol, also known as "bad" cholesterol, reports SFGate.
