Kentucky Republican Congressman James Comer on Monday accused former President Joe Biden on Newsmax of shielding his relatives through last-minute pardons, calling it an "admission of guilt" in an alleged influence-peddling operation.
Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, leveled serious allegations against Biden on Monday, asserting that the outgoing commander-in-chief granted preemptive pardons to seven members of his family involved in what Comer describes as an "influence peddling" scheme.
In a studio appearance on "Rob Schmitt Tonight," Comer said, "It's wild. He pardoned his whole family. So, he's pardoned seven Biden family members. Our investigation found that ten Biden family members, including Joe Biden, received money through influence peddling schemes that were laundered through a series of shell companies and then deposited in Biden family member's bank accounts through incremental payments."
Comer claimed these pardons constitute "an admission of guilt," adding, "Joe Biden lied to the American people. He [Joe Biden] said, 'He would not pardon his family.' You go back even further, he said, 'He had no idea what his family did for a living.' He said 'he never met any of these people.' Our investigation proved he met all of the people."
The congressman also pointed to corroborating IRS whistleblower testimony, saying, "The IRS whistleblowers testified that they never paid any taxes on this money. It's the biggest public corruption story in my lifetime. And today was the exclamation point by Joe Biden pardoning his entire family preemptively."
In one of his final acts before leaving office, Biden issued a series of pardons just hours before President-elect Donald Trump returned to the White House.
In addition to members of the Biden family, those pardoned include former Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci, former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, and several officials who served on the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot.
In a statement released earlier, Biden called potential federal prosecutions against these officials "baseless and politically motivated."
