Whoopi Goldberg supports singer Carrie Underwood's decision to perform at President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration Monday.
Underwood has faced backlash since it was revealed that she will perform, but on Tuesday's episode of "The View," co-host Goldberg said she stood by Underwood.
"People do what they do for whatever reason," Goldberg said before referring to how MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago in November after his election win, according to the Independent.
"I stand behind her," Goldberg added. "If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place, I believe they have the same right. I have to support. It doesn't mean I'm particularly interested. I won't be watching, but that's just me."
Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of "The View," added that she hopes people could move on from where they "cancel people's livelihood because we don't like their politics."
"If you have a problem, you register your complaint by not downloading her songs and not going to her shows," she said. "But, I also think from a business standpoint, it's not a bad decision for Carrie Underwood."
And while many celebrities are "left-leaning," Underwood "will overnight become an icon of MAGA and the American right," Griffin said.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced on Jan. 13 that Underwood will take the stage at the inauguration, where she is slated to sing "America the Beautiful."
In a statement to the Independent, Underwood said: "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
Underwood has previously been private about her political stance. In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, she admitted to trying to "stay far out of politics, if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins."
"It's crazy. Everybody tried to sum everything up and put a bow on it like it's black and white. And it's not like that," she said.
