White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday that he doesn't know if the White House knew former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was maintaining her own server at her house where she kept her emails.
Earnest was responding to a question from a reporter who asked, "specifically, did the White House know Secretary Clinton had her own server?"
"I don't know the answer to that," he said.
"As I mentioned earlier, the extent of knowledge about Secretary Clinton's email was her email address," Earnest explained. "She used that email address, as we all now know, was not state.gov, but that she was emailing White House officials."
Jon Karl of ABC News asked Earnest if "the White House believe[s] that Hillary Clinton broke any laws here?"
The White House Press Secretary said that "what we know about this situation it is clear that Secretary Clinton's team has gone to great lengths to collect the emails on her personal email account that relate to official government work," Earnest told Karl.
"They have turned them over to the State Department so that the State Department could properly preserve and maintain them and use them to respond to legitimate inquiries from the public and Congress."
"That is consistent with the Federal Records Act," he added.
On whether or not President Barack Obama is "miffed" about the revelation about Clinton was using her own email address for official government business or if he thinks it's "all much ado about nothing," Earnest said that he "did not bring it up" to the president.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that Clinton used her personal email account for official State Department business, which may be a violation of federal record keeping rules.
It was reported Wednesday that Clinton's email was ran on a server that was installed in her home in Chappaqua, New York. https://www.newsmax.com/Headline/Clinton-Emails-Homebrew-Server/2015/03/04/id/628123/
