Newsmax Poll: Overwhelming 83 Percent Say Trump Won First Debate

More than 8 out of 10 surveyed say Donald Trump won the first presidential debate Monday night, according to a Newsmax poll.

The results:

• Donald Trump: 83 percent
• Hillary Clinton: 17 percent

The survey captured the results of more than 17,700 respondents. Of those, 64 percent said they voted for Mitt Romney in 2012.

The religious breakdown of those surveyed:

• Protestant: 25 percent
• Evangelical/Fundamentalist: 18 percent
• Roman Catholic/not active: 16 percent
• Roman Catholic/active: 11 percent

Also, 43 percent said they were a member of the National Rifle Association.
