Just under half the voters surveyed in the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll say the contentious battle for the GOP presidential nomination is harming the party's image, but Democrats don't feel the same way about their own primary race, reports NBC News.

According to the poll of 800 registered voters:
  • 42 percent of Republicans say the race makes them feel less favorable;
  • 19 percent feel more favorable;
  • 38 percent haven't changed their minds;
  • 33 percent say they view the GOP more favorable;
  • 23 percent have a worse image.
Among Democrats:
  • 28 percent view the party more negatively;
  • 17 percent more positively;
  • 54 percent say the fight hasn't changed their views;
  • 38 percent said their view of the party improved;
  • 7 percent said their views got worse.
The same poll, which was released last week, showed Trump ahead by 13 points over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for the GOP nod, with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson coming in after them.

The survey was conducted between Jan. 9-13 and carried an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent, including a 4.9 percent margin of error for each party.
