Weeks ahead of the Nov. 8 elections, Hillary Clinton found herself in hot water after an alleged remark about a drone strike on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange went viral, The Hill reports.

Clinton's campaign manager Robby Mook refused to make any comments on the burning issue, which could tarnish the Democrat nominee's presidential bid.

"I'm reticent to comment on anything that the WikiLeaks people have said. They've made a lot of accusations in the past," Mook told WTTG Fox 5 DC reporter Ronica Cleary, who posted the video clip of the interview on Monday.

While Assange said he will publish leaks every week in the run up to U.S. elections, he denied he was trying to quash Hillary Clinton's campaign, according to the Daily Mail.

Amid intense speculation, Assange confirmed via video conference he does not have plans of releasing any new explosive documents today, but will hold a press conference to celebrate the organization's tenth anniversary in Berlin.

There have been questions raised regarding the authenticity of Clinton's remark to strike a drone on Assange, which some reporters believe might have been said in jest.

While True Pundit published the report first which claimed Clinton once asked during a State Department briefing, "Can't we just drone this guy?" New York Magazine carried the story calling it a "viral rumor that Hillary Clinton wanted to drone-strike Julian Assange."

WikiLeaks, meanwhile, tweeted a Washington Examiner report about the video on Monday and on Sunday posted an extract from the True Pundit report.

Shifting the focus to Donald Trump, Mook claimed in his interview the Republican presidential nominee and his allies were using Clinton's alleged comment to distract voters.

"Donald Trump and his allies are trying to do everything they can to change the debate here right now," Mook said. "They've got to find some way to change this up and they're trying to do that by doubling down on conspiracy theories."

Mook also brought up Trump's tweets on former Miss Universe Alicia Machado where the billionaire businessman called the former beauty queen "disgusting" and a "con" and accused Clinton of falling for the woman's traps.
