Rep. Peter King and other Republicans are renewing calls for the United States to temporarily stop taking in refugees from the Middle East in the wake of Tuesday's terror attack in Belgium.

King, a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told the Washington Examiner he wants to see the program come to a temporary halt.

"Right now, we should suspend all refugees coming from Syria, Iraq and any countries involved in a war where ISIS is a factor," King said. "I just feel that we do not have a proper vetting system. We cannot be sure we are keeping ISIS terrorists from being included in the refugees that are coming in."

California Republican Devin Nunes, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, told the Examiner he agrees with King.

"That would still be my view," he said. "There is no possible way you can vet all of these refugees who I have a high confidence level that some are getting through the cracks. And it only takes one or two bad ones and you have a major problem. So the process needs to be revamped."

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who is running for president, echoed the two men's statements on Tuesday.

ISIS has reportedly claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack that killed more than 30 people and wounded scores more. Two bombs were detonated at Brussels Airport, while another one went off at a nearby train station.

The U.S. is working to accept 10,000 refugees from war-torn Iraq and Syria, a controversial move by the Obama administration that is drawing criticism from many critics.
