Fox News veteran Brit Hume took over the reins of "On the Record" — the show helmed by Greta Van Susteren from 2002 until she left Tuesday — praising her work while somberly noting she'd broke ranks because "the place just didn't feel like home anymore."
Hume formally announced her departure at the start of the show, saying "my friend Greta Van Susteren has left Fox News," but didn't return to the subject until the close of the program.
"Finally, a word about Greta Van Susteren," he said. "As I noted earlier, she has left Fox News saying today the place just didn't feel like home anymore."
"I count Greta [as] a friend and I'm sorry to see her go. All of us here certainly wish her well. She made a big contribution and we will miss her. In the meantime, I will try to carry on in the hopes her audience will stick with us. Don't worry I will only be here through the election."
Hume previously anchored "Special Report" from 1996 to 2008, when Bret Baier took over.
On her Facebook page, Van Susteren tweaked Fox News for sending her GretaWire fans to the FoxNews.com site after her abrupt departure.
"This is sort of fun," she said before explaining how she managed to take back her personal greta.com, and redirect it "to where I want it to go" – an animal rescue site.
