Despite constant chatter of a possible White House run for Vice President Joe Biden,
Politico notes that not once during the two hour Democratic debate Tuesday night was Biden's name mentioned as a possible candidate.
“This debate was about the five people on this stage,” said Clinton strategist Joel Benenson in the spin room after the debate. “Vice President Biden has a very personal decision to make.”
Waiting after the first debate to announce his candidacy was a gamble, but Biden advisers have put word out that he is going to wait another week to announce his decision — right up against Clinton’s appearance in front of the Benghazi Committee,
Politico noted.
"I wouldn’t think that would be the criteria upon which he’d decide whether to run or not, but at this point he needs to make up his mind,” Clinton campaign chair John Podesta told Yahoo News in Las Vegas ahead of the debate. Former Obama adviser David Axelrod added that as Biden withholds his announcement, “People’s patience are being tested here."
Meanwhile, as Biden waits to announce his decision, Politico reports that Hillary Clinton closed what could have been multiple paths for Biden in Tuesday night's debate. If Biden runs for president, he vouches that he will "build on the work of the Obama administration, a third term with a twist."
However, Hillary Clinton beat Biden to his promise. "There's a lot that I would like to do to build on the successes of President Obama,” Clinton said at the debate. ”But also, as I'm laying out, to go beyond.”
Politico added, that "if Joe Biden was waiting for signs of a Hillary Clinton collapse to coax him into the 2016 race, he should have shut off Wednesday’s debate and watched the baseball playoffs."
