Hillary Clinton charged Saturday that Republican front-runner Donald Trump is becoming the "best recruiter" for the Islamic State because his anti-Muslim policies and rhetoric would prevent Muslims in the United States from helping to ferret out potential terrorists in their communities.
"Mr. Trump has a great capacity to use bluster and bigotry to inflame people and to make them think there are easy answers to very complex questions," Clinton said during the third Democratic debate in Manchester, N.H.
She said that all Americans, including Muslims, must be come together to stop terrorism.
"We need to be united against the threats that we face," Clinton said. "We need to have everybody in our country focused on watching what happens and reporting it if it's suspicious — reporting what you hear, making sure that Muslim Americans don't feel left out or marginalized at the very moment when we need their help."
Clinton complimented former President George W. Bush for reaching out to Muslims after the 9/11 attacks when she was in the Senate.
"One of the best things that was done, and George W. Bush did this, and I give him credit, was to reach out to Muslim Americans and say we're in this together, you are not our adversary, you are our partner."
She further slammed Trump, who has proposed that all Muslims be banned from entering the United States out of terrorism concerns.
"We also need to make sure that the really discriminatory messages that Trump is sending around the world don't fall on receptive ears," Clinton said.
"He is becoming ISIS' best recruiter. They are going to people showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists."
