GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has hinted he might skip Thursday's debate on Fox News Channel, and now he's asking his fans on social media to help him make up his mind.

Trump posted a poll on Twitter Tuesday afternoon asking, "Should I do the #GOPdebate?" with the ability to click Yes or No.

The poll is set to run through midday Wednesday. As of early afternoon on Tuesday, there were more than 16,000 votes, with 53 percent saying Trump should do the debate and 47 percent saying he should skip.

The tweet links to an Instagram video in which Trump reiterates his belief that Fox News host Megyn Kelly, one of the three moderators of the debate is biased against him.

"Megyn Kelly's really biased against me. She knows that, I know that, everybody knows that," Trump says in the video. "Do you really think she can be fair at a debate?"

Trump has been at odds with Kelly since the first GOP debate, also hosted by Fox News, in which Kelly questioned his treatment of women.

For its part, Fox News issued a humorous response, CNN reported

"We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings," Fox's statement read.

On Monday, Fox taunted Trump after he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that he is considering skipping the debate because Kelly treats him "really unfairly."

"Sooner or later Donald Trump, even if he's president, is going to have to learn that he doesn't get to pick the journalists — we're very surprised he's willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly," a Fox statement read.

New York magazine's Gabriel Sherman reported over the weekend that Trump was considering skipping the debate and might even stage a town hall at the same time for other news networks to cover.

CNN media reporter Brian Stelter on Tuesday suggested Trump is building up anticipation for a "rematch" with Kelly.

"But his Twitter poll on Tuesday afternoon may suggest a real reluctance to attend the debate," Stelter wrote. "He could potentially cite the feedback from his fans as a reason for skipping it."

Some respondents on social media suggested Trump is afraid of facing Kelly and is looking for an out.

CNN media analyst Bill Carter said Trump may have "planted" the idea that Kelly will be unfair "so that maybe she isn't as tough as she would be."
