GOP front-runner Donald Trump was twice drowned out with boos as he and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush sparred over the legacy of Bush's brother, former President George W. Bush, at Saturday's presidential debate.
Moderator John Dickerson noted that Trump told CNN in 2008 he thought then-Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should have impeached Bush over the Iraq War.
Trump began his answer with his standard line that he used to try to get along with all sides as a businessman. When a round of boos ensued from the audience, Trump said, as he did at the last debate, that the crowd was stacked with rich donors to his opponents.
That drew even louder boos.
Trump then noted that Jeb Bush stumbled last year when asked if, in hindsight, the war was a bad idea.
"George Bush made a mistake," Trump said. "We can make mistakes. But that one was a beauty. We should have never been in Iraq. We have destabilized the Middle East."
"So you still think he should be impeached?" Dickerson asked.
"You do whatever you want. You call it whatever you want. I will tell you. They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction and there were none. And they knew there were none."
More boos came at that statement.
Jeb Bush took the microphone next, saying he is tired of President Barack Obama blaming his brother for all his problems, and he's "sick and tired" of Trump "going after my family."
"While Donald Trump was building a reality TV show, my brother was building a security apparatus to keep us safe," Bush said.
"The World Trade Center came down during your brother's reign," Trump said, as boos, again drowned him out.
"I won the lottey 63 years ago when I looked up and saw my mom," Bush said. "My mom is the strongest woman I know."
"She should be running," Trump shot back.
"I just want to say, at least on behalf of me and my family, I thank God all the time it was George W. Bush in the White House on 9/11, and not Al Gore," Florida Sen. Marco Rubio chimed in. "He kept us safe, and I am forever grateful for what he did."
"The World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush," Trump said. "He kept us safe?"
The World Trade center came down because President Bill Clinton didn't kill Osama bin Laden when he had the chance, Rubio said.
"George Bush had the chance, also, and he didn't listen to the advice of his CIA," Trump said.
