The United States has enough problems of its own without taking in some of the refugees fleeing war-torn Syria, GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Wednesday, reversing his position from a day earlier.
Appearing on Fox News Channel's
"Hannity," Trump said there is a real threat that Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists could be mixed in with legitimate refugees.
"Look, from a humanitarian standpoint, I'd love to help. But we have our own problems," Trump said.
"If you look at a lot of the people I've been watching on television, it's men. There aren't that many women relatively speaking," he said. "It's a horrible thing in terms of humanity."
Trump said wealthy Persian Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain should be pitching in, but haven't taken any refugees.
A day earlier,
Trump had suggested the United States should take some of the refugees who currently are flooding Europe.
"Something has to be done," Trump said on Fox News Channel's
"The O'Reilly Factor" on Tuesday. "It's an unbelievable humanitarian problem."
