Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Monday squared off over NAFTA, which he charged was "the single worst trade deal."
Trump's accusation came as Clinton outlined her plan to revive the nation's economy — saying that "I think my husband did a good job in the 1990s."
President Bill Clinton signed the trade deal with Mexico and Canada in 1993.
"Your husband signed NAFTA, which was one of the worst things that ever happened," Trump said during the debate at the first presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
"That is your opinion," Clinton said. "That is your opinion."
Trump then pointed to the various states that have lost manufacturing jobs because of the trade agreement.
"That is just not accurate," Clinton said. "I was against it once it was finally negotiated and the terms were laid out. I wrote about that … "
" … You called it the gold standard," Trump said.
"You called it the gold standard of trade deals, he added. "You said it was the final deal you have ever seen. Then you heard what I said about it — and then you were against it.
"Donald, I know you live in your own reality, but that is not the fact," Clinton retorted. "The facts are I said I hoped it would be a good deal."
