The last man to walk on the moon said Thursday John Glenn's death is a "great loss to the space program."

During an interview on Fox News, Former NASA astronaut Gene Cernan spoke about Glenn, who died Thursday at age 95.

"John was a real trail blazer. He made it possible for the rest of us to follow in his footsteps," Cernan said of Glenn, who was the first man to ever orbit the Earth. "And he is a great loss to the space program. A dear friend and we're going to miss him."

Glenn continued to fly as he aged, even going into space on the shuttle Discovery in 1998 at age 77.

"Well, you know, John was the oldest guy ever to fly, and he, as I say, trail trail blazer, not once but twice, and almost made it possible for the rest of us old guys to take a shot at it," Cernan said.
