Former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu says that despite Donald Trump's commanding win in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday, the Republican Party will still be looking for an alternative nominee.
"I still don't think Donald Trump is the best choice for the Republican
Party," Sununu said during Fox News Channel election coverage. "I think you will have the party trying to find a non-Donald Trump candidate."
Positions 2 and 3 – and perhaps even 4 and 5 – will be helpful heading into South Carolina, Sununu said, as the party seeks to prevent Trump, a non-establishment favorite, from security the GOP crown.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie effectively wounded Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's chances with an attack during Saturday's debate, the former governor said, but Christie didn't benefit from it himself.
Christie will have to do some "soul searching" if his numbers don't look strong once the night is over, he said, adding, "I think [Carly] Fiorina and [Ben] Carson should get a message out of tonight, but they probably won't."
