The ex-wife of Omar Mateen says the Orlando mass murderer had a hair-trigger temper and regularly subjected her to beatings while they were married.
"He was not a stable person. He beat me,"
Sitora Yusifiy told The Washington Post. "He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn't finished or something like that."
Yusifiy met Mateen on an online dating service, moved to Florida to be with him, and the pair eventually wed in March 2009.
At first, "he seemed like a normal human being," Yusifiy told the newspaper, adding that he wasn't very religious and spent his spare time working out at a gym. But then the beatings began and the marriage ended in 2011.
But Mateen, from all outward appearances, was quiet and kept to himself.
Imam Shafiq Rahman, who would see Mateen at a local mosque told The Post: "He never talked to anyone. He would come and pray and leave. There was no indication at all that he would do something violent."
