President-Elect Donald Trump is "not calling for mass deportation" of illegal immigrants, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said Wednesday.
"He wants to protect the sovereignty of America, and be a partner throughout the world," Priebus told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program. Adding that it was not about banning religions from America, but more about looking at countries that harbor terrorism and "suspending temporarily" immigration from those locations.
Deportation is only for those who have "committed crimes," he said.
The RNC chairman also addressed claims that Trump may be considering him for a chief of staff position in his administration. "If the president of the United States asks you to do anything… if they ask you to go walk a dog, I guess you've got to consider it."
During an appearance on NBC's "Today" show, Priebus said he had not talked to anyone about the job offer, noting it had only been a few hours since the win.
