Sarah Palin: 'GOP Machine' Risks Defeat if It Marginalizes Evangelicals

The GOP could jeopardize its chances to win the White House in 2016 if the party's "establishment" tries to "marginalize" Evangelical voters and create "disincentives" for them to vote, Sarah Palin tells Newsmax TV.

In an interview Friday with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth, the former Alaska governor, 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee and author of a new book, "Sweet Freedom: A Devotional," laid into the Republican elite that "seems to want to run everything."

"The GOP machine, the establishment, they better not think that they are holier-than-thou and marginalize Evangelicals and then create disincentives for … us to want to get out there and be involved in campaigns and to vote," Palin warned.

And, she added, Evangelicals have to personally commit to getting out to vote and "make a difference in this world."

"We make a difference in the political arena by exercising that sacred right that we have to vote, to elect … godly leaders who will reflect our values, the Judeo-Christian foundation of our nation," she said, adding however, "when it comes to the establishment, the GOP kind of machine that seems to want to run everything, they need to not marginalize Evangelicals and those who really rely on faith and believe so strongly in those time-tested truths that are in scripture."

Palin also said her newest book is her most personal yet – and one she hopes will help guide other people through tough times.

"People are looking for solid answers on how we can deal with these political challenges facing us, personal challenges facing us, and the only answer really is in Scripture," she said.

"I want to let people know that there is a guideline for us. I want to point people to the right verse and the scripture to deal with our individual issues…."

She said the book also is a way of emphasizing "we have a God of second chances and third chances and fourth chances. He doesn't expect us to be perfect."

"It was an opportunity for me to kind of use myself, my family, as examples in never setting ourselves up to be holier-than-thou," she said. "I mean I'm confessing things in this book that I've never talked about publicly ever."

"In fact, my kids, they read a couple of the passages, a couple of the daily devotions and they're like 'mom, you never told us this,'" she added. "And I'm like 'Keep reading the book.'"
