Former GOP Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown — under consideration for a job with the new Trump administration — said Wednesday the president-elect doesn't want to populate his Cabinet with "yes people."
In an interview on Fox News' "Your World With Neil Cavuto," Brown said so far he's been impressed with Donald Trump's selections, and he is convinced the president-elect is going to pick the best person for the job, "period."
"And it's good to have tension and different points of view in disagreements," he said. "One of the reasons Donald Trump, the president-elect likes me is I'm pretty direct."
"I'll tell him exactly what I think is going right and wrong," he continued. "And he doesn't want yes people up there. He wants people to tell him, 'sir, with all due respect, you're wrong' — or right — and the ability to work it through. And I think that is critical. Because in this present administration, there's no one that tells the president that he's wrong."
Brown praised the selection of South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as UN ambassador and his consideration of Mitt Romney as secretary of State — both of whom were critical of Trump during the presidential campaign.
"That's what I like about what Donald Trump is doing," Brown said. "He's actually bringing people together, going for the best person regardless. And that's what our country needs right now."
"I think it is obviously with him and Mitt Romney meeting and the potential of him offering a position," he added. "The fact that Mitt Romney could be Secretary of State would be better than John Kerry. It really makes me very excited."
