Lisinopril is a medication used to treat a number of diseases like high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, and kidney disease. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that helps in preventing the body from creating a hormone called angiotensin II. It reduces blood pressure (hypertension) by going to arteries that reduces damage to kidneys caused due to high blood pressure (hypertension). Lisinopril helps in the relaxation of blood vessels, thus decreasing the blood pressure. When blood pressure is lowered, it is easier for the heart to pump blood. Lisinopril also helps in preventing kidney failure that occurs due to hypertension or diabetes.

Though lisinopril is a safe drug, it may cause certain side effects. Side effects of lisinopril may be classified into minor side effects and major side effects. When patients start taking this medication for hypertension, minor side effects may occur. These minor side effects may disappear after a short while and patients need not to take any medication to counter them. However, if the minor side effects persist, they may cause serious health problems. Minor side effects of lisinopril are listed below:

- Effect on pregnancy
- Flu-like symptoms
Lisinopril may interfere with other medication, thus it should be consumed only after consulting with the doctor. Visit the doctor if symptoms of side effects worsen. If you experience any unusual problems while taking this medication, inform your doctor. This medication should not be consumed with potassium supplements or diuretics. Intake of ACE inhibitors has been found to cause increased lithium levels. It has also been reported that drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen may reduce the effects of ACE inhibitors.
