Lisinopril for High Blood Pressure: What Are the Side Effects?

Monday, 31 March 2014 02:19 AM EDT

Lisinopril is a medication used to treat a number of diseases like high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, and kidney disease. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that helps in preventing the body from creating a hormone called angiotensin II. It reduces blood pressure (hypertension) by going to arteries that reduces damage to kidneys caused due to high blood pressure (hypertension). Lisinopril helps in the relaxation of blood vessels, thus decreasing the blood pressure. When blood pressure is lowered, it is easier for the heart to pump blood. Lisinopril also helps in preventing kidney failure that occurs due to hypertension or diabetes.

Left untreated, the patients of high blood pressure can face severe health problems like heart attacks or strokes. High blood pressure can harm the heart and damage the blood vessels. Lisinopril can be used along with other medication to reduce blood pressure. Patients of hypertension and diabetes are often prescribed lisinopril as a medication. The recommended dose of lisinopril for treating hypertension is 10 milligrams daily.
