Andrew McKenna will not be President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Air Force secretary.
"Andrew McKenna will not be invited to join the Trump Administration as Secretary of the Air Force, or anything else," Trump posted to his account Monday morning.
McKenna, a private pilot, is a donor who previously served in the George W. Bush administration as White House Liaison's office at the Agriculture Department. Politico had previously said McKenna was a contender for the Air Force gig, which Trump dismissed as fake news.
McKenna rubbed some people in the Trump camp the wrong way, Politico reported, citing a member of the Trump transition team. Trump has named John Phelan as Navy secretary and Dan Driscoll to run the Army.
Neither McKenna nor the Trump transition team immediately responded to a request for comment to Politico.
McKenna faced a tough road to confirmation, Politico said, after reporting that his firm helped the LIV Golf tour track advocacy efforts of 9/11 victims' families who protested the tournament because it had links to the Saudi government.
McKenna also hired the wife of a National Rifle Association executive while his firm represented the group, Politico reported.
