White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Newsmax on Thursday that President Donald Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises with his flurry of executive orders aimed at securing the border and instituting mass deportations.
Trump this week issued executive orders declaring an "invasion across the southern border of the United States," allowing military service members to serve as immigration and border enforcement to help with plans for mass deportations of immigrants.
"President Trump took historic action on his first day in the Oval Office, signing 10 executive orders to secure our homeland, secure our southern border, and launch the largest mass deportation operation in American history," Leavitt said on "Wake Up America."
"And in just 33 hours of his signing with his pen, the Customs and Border Patrol and ICE got immediately to work to deport violent illegal criminals from our country," she added. "They have arrested nearly 500 of these individuals in the interior, and they will be sent home. And those flights are already underway this morning."
She continued, "President Trump is delivering on his promise immediately to make America safe again. And he is empowering the brave men and women in uniform across our great country who are tasked with enforcing our nation's immigration laws. And they have a leader in the Oval Office who is going to support them in doing their jobs."
Leavitt also implored congressional Republicans to support Trump's Cabinet selections. When asked about Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Defense, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, Leavitt said that "all Republicans need to get smart and get tough, support Pete Hegseth and all of President Trump's nominees."
