Barbara Bush: Palin Should Stay in Alaska

Sunday, 21 November 2010 12:59 PM EST

While other members of the Bush family have largely kept their opinions of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to themselves, Barbara Bush now tells CNN’s Larry King that she hopes “she’ll stay in Alaska.” While it’s unclear just what the context of her statement suggested, mainstream media like USA Today depicted the comment as an insult. “Ouch!,” is what USA Today said about the comment.

"I sat next to her once," Mrs. Bush told King about Palin. "Thought she was beautiful -- and I think she's very happy in Alaska -- and I hope she'll stay there."

Former President George H.W. Bush also said he is "confused" by the tea party, adding that he doesn't "know what it really is." Still, he said, "some of [their] ideas make a lot of sense."
