Book on Clintons: Cash From India Swayed Hillary's Nuclear Stance

A new book about Hillary Clinton claims that cash to her family foundation from wealthy influencers from India swayed her nuclear stance for the foreign country, Politico reports.

It said that the former secretary of state "changed her position on the 2008 nuclear agreement between the United States and India" after business and government interests "flooded various Clinton enterprises with cash," Politico said.

The book, "Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Help Make Bill and Hillary Rich," is set for release May 5 and has already become a thorn in the side of the Democratic presidential candidate as she seeks to respond to erupting criticism on the campaign trail, Politico said.

In one chapter, conservative author Peter Schweizer, who heads the Government Accountability Institute, outlines overtures from Indians who supported a nuclear deal as they reached out to the Clintons.

One Indian-American donor, Politico said, who pleaded guilty in April 2014 in an illegal contribution scheme for Clinton's 2008 run, had previously received an award from the Indian government for his role in getting the deal approved.

Clinton spoke out about the book's allegations at a campaign stop in Keene, New Hampshire, last week.

"[I'll be] subjected to all kinds of distractions and attacks, and I'm ready for that. I know that that comes, unfortunately, with the territory," she told reporters, according to Politico.

Schweizer, in the wake of early publicity surrounding his book, says he now has full-time security, Business Insider reported.

Clinton's campaign spokesman slammed the book's credibility. "'Clinton Cash' is nothing more than a tangled web of conspiracy theories backed by no actual evidence," Josh Schwerin told Business Insider.

The publication said that Clinton's allies were "going to war" against the book's allegations. Noted one Clinton supporter, David Brock, in a statement: "Schweizer is a partisan right-wing activist whose writings have been marked with falsehoods and retractions. Buyers should beware and consider the source."

Brock's group, Media Matters for America, released a long fact-check index of what they describe as false claims made in the book.

MSNBC, however, confronted Brock about the book and what it described as his own "bias" in favor of Clinton, The Washington Examiner reported.
