The United States should drop its funding of the Palestinian Authority until it divorces itself from Hamas, says Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
The Florida Republican said Israel's strikes against targets in Gaza on Tuesday were simply an act of self-defense after Hamas rockets were fired at Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa.
"Israel finally said enough is enough," Ros-Lehtinen said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's
"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren." Now, she said, the international press is calling Israel the aggressor.
The Palestinian Authority has allowed Hamas to join a unity government that receives $400 million a year from the United States. Ros-Lehtinen wants that money cut off until Hamas is ousted from the government.
"When I was chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Palestinian Authority got zero dollars," she said. "That's what we must do now."
