Ron Paul: Government Should Not Regulate Facebook

Former presidential candidate Ron Paul said he is against the government getting involved in regulating Facebook.

"I would be certainly opposed at the government — the Congress or anybody else — trying to restrain Facebook," he said.

During an interview on Fox Business Network, Paul said Facebook "started this" because the company wants to make deals with the government so it can "participate in the government spying on us" and "I think that's really a big problem."

Paul is a former Republican congressman who ran for president with the Libertarian Party in 1988 and ran again as a Republican in 2008 and 2012.

Facebook has been under fire for allegedly excluding conservative news outlets — including Newsmax — in its trending topics list of featured news items.

Republican Sen. John Thune questioned Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the claims, according to The Hill, saying Facebook must answer the "serious allegations."

Facebook vice president Tom Stocky denied the bias claims, saying in a Facebook post "we do not insert stories artificially into trending topics and do not instruct our reviewers to do so."

Former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh, a Republican, took to Twitter:

Duh! Mark Zuckerberg is a lib & Facebook has a liberal bias.

But conservatives, don't get government involved. That's not what we believe.
