Sheldon Adelson Sues WSJ Reporter for Libel

By    |   Monday, 25 February 2013 07:28 PM EST

Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson has sued a reporter for The Wall Street Journal reporter for libel — seeking damages for an article in December in which he was described as “foul mouth,” the newspaper said on Monday.

The complaint, filed on Friday in Hong Kong, concerns an article on the U.S. court battle between Adelson, the chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands and Steve Jacobs, the former CEO of the Las Vegas Sands’ Macau operations, The Journal reports.

Jacobs filed a lawsuit for wrongful termination in 2010.

The accusations have since been denied by Las Vegas Sands.

The article, published in early December, contrasted Jacobs, “a 6-foot-5-inch-tall Ivy League graduate who colleagues say rarely curses,” with Adelson, “a scrappy, foul-mouthed billionaire from working-class Dorchester, Mass.,” The Journal reports.

Kate O'Keeffe, a Journal reporter based in Hong Kong, wrote the story with Alexandra Berzon, a reporter based in the U.S., even though the lawsuit only names O’Keeffe, The Journal reports.

Neither The Journal nor its publisher, Dow Jones & Co., is named in the suit.
