Report: 'Meet the Press' Gregory in Talks With CNN

By    |   Sunday, 03 August 2014 09:54 AM EDT

David Gregory, host of "Meet the Press," was spotted at CNN headquarters on Thursday, sparking speculation he may be planning a move from NBC before the network has a chance to fire him, Page Six reported.

Ratings for "Meet the Press" are down 43 percent since Gregory took over after the death of Tim Russert in 2008, and industry-watchers have been predicting Gregory would be let go. NBC has repeatedly denied the reports, but some think the network might be waiting until after the November midterm elections to make a move.

CNN is said to be considering a primetime pilot, and Gregory is close friends with CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker, who was formerly at NBC.

"No one was surprised to hear David was meeting over at CNN," a network news source told Page Six. "Jeff and David have been very close professionally and personally. Jeff was a champion of David’s during his time at NBC. Their families are close. They have a very strong relationship that dates back to the 1990s."
