Donald Trump's physician reiterated Thursday that the Republican nominee was "absolutely" in "excellent" health to serve in the White House and said that he quickly typed the letter because "I was just rushed for time."

"There's no question about it," Dr. Harold Bornstein told CNN reporter Drew Griffin about Trump's fitness to serve as president.

Bornstein, 69, talked briefly outside his office in a building on Park Avenue in New York City.

He sat on a bench in the hall because "my wife will get angry."

Bornstein is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and said that Trump, 70, has been a patient since 1980.

He said that he had no regrets in writing the letter, dated last Dec. 4, or becoming involved in the election.

The physician said he wrote the letter quickly because "I had people to see" and dismissed Griffin's summary of news reports characterizing Bornstein as "some kind of lunatic or something."

"A lunatic doesn't have my credentials," he responded. "The only thing I wanted to do in my life is practice with my father, which I managed to do for 35 years in this office."

Griffin noted that Bornstein had "a couple of medical malpractice suits" that were settled — "that's normal," he responded — before his wife ended the interview.

"You're done," his wife, identified in news reports as Melissa Brown-Bornstein, told CNN after she put her hand in front of the camera. "You're done.

"You're on private property," she added as she led her husband into the office. "I'm going to call the police."
